We have owned, bred and shown gundogs (mainly Labradors and Pointers) since 1964. After we moved from Victoria to Western Australia in 1995 we decided we wanted to add another breed - so we decided to get an Irish Red and White puppy and 'Paddy'
(Ch. Eirefyre Padraic) came to live with us. He was followed
by 'Katie' (Ch. Acecavel Katalin) and from their first union
we kept Brian (Ch. Tintookie Brian Berue) From their second union we kept Ch. Tintookie Fire N Flame (Riley.)
Although not shown often all of our early Irish Red and Whites have performed well.
'Paddy' has been Best of Breed at the Perth Royal Show for three consecutive years, 'Katie' was awarded 'Best Setter in Show' at the Western Australian Setter and Spaniel Club Championship Show in 1999 and 'Brian' was runner up Best of Breed at the 1999 Perth Royal.
'Riley' was Runner Up Best of Breed at the Adelaide Royal Show 2001 and also runner Up Best of Breed at the Melbourne Royal Show 2001.
However, we believe our Irish Red and White Setters really took off when we were lucky enough to purchase the Irish Red and White Setter bitch:
Ch. Truestone Kiwi Export (Imp.
N.Z.) 'Mia' was awarded Best of Breed at the 2000 Perth Royal Show whilst still a puppy and we loved her so much that when her breeder, Mrs. Christine Thompson of New Zealand offered us her litter brother 'Bennie'
Ch. Truestone Kiwi Supreme (Imp NZ) we jumped at the opportunity.
Bennie is now an Australian GRAND CH.
'Bennie' is the epitome of what a good IRWS should be and he has done wonders for the profile of the breed. 'Bennie's' wins in the show ring are too numerous to mention, but include numerous class in groups and BOB at the prestigious Royal Melbourne Show 2001. 'Bennie' is a great ambassador for the breed and he continues to gain fans wherever and whenever he is shown. 'Bennie's' temperament is stunning and he is adored by all who meet him.
The very best thing that happened to our kennels came last May when Christine Thompson offered to let us have 'Bennie's' and 'Mia's' parents -
N.Z. Ch. Ruemadra Royal Consort (Imp UK) (Mickey) and NZ Ch. Truestone Autumn's A'Glo
(IID) (Gypsy). We are forever indebted to Chris and will always be grateful that we were allowed to own these two superb dogs.
On the 21st of December 2001 these two dogs became the parents of eleven stunning puppies and we are thrilled to present these pups on these
web pages. We strongly believe that the birth of this litter in Australia has strengthened the gene pool and brought the IRWS a step further in Australia.
All of our IRWS are hip and elbow ex-rayed and are tested annually for PPC.
Our stock are also all tested for CLAD and we feel that all of these problems
are a worry to the breed and must be tested for if the breed is to eliminate these problems.
We strongly urge prospective buyers to ensure that when purchasing a puppy they check that the parents have been tested for these problems.
The Irish Red and White Setter is not a breed suited to everyone, but if you want a breed full of character, with a loving and generous nature then we suggest you look more closely at this breed. We welcome any inquiries and are happy to answer any questions regarding the wonderful and rare fourth setter breed.
We firmly believe that IRISH RED AND WHITE SETTERS ARE IDEAL!
